Well, thats a long story. LOL! Basically I have a friend who runs a hedge fund and I use his broker and clear through Goldman Sachs. The advantages are super low commissions and I can pretty much short anything so long as I cover by end of day. Overnight borrows are sometimes a different story.
I've used IB for years though and at one time their borrow list was terrible. Nowdays, as I said earlier, their list is such that I feel very confident in saying I could trade just with them and not miss any opportunities.
I use e-signal for my charts and IB is really lacking in that area. I know a lot of people who have TS accounts just for the charts so I assume thats their strong point.

My positions are very small relative to my account size. Once I have full confidence, I will scale up. Trading 50 shares of MA is exactly the same as 500 shares
As for MHK and ROK, I am expecting a quick pull back like CYOU and PCX. Of cousre, I will wait for signals of weakness and have conviction when the signals are there. It is strictly day trading. It is absolutely no no to swing short these guys

I am just focusing on my executions right now and try very hard not to worry about my daily profits/losses. And it is OK with high flyers. They have an average of 8000 shortable positions daily. IB has slightly more, around 8500. TOS has aorund 8000 too. Of cousre they might have different shortable stocks.
I think if I have all of them 3, then the total shortable might be well over 12000 (just a guess).

What broker do you use? SInce you like shorting (so do I) I would think this is big problem. I know a lot of people who use Tradestation for the charts but none of them trade there just for this reason. Even IB (my backup broker) usually has anything I want available. Very rare thats not the case. Just an idea.

What are your reasons for keeping MHK and ROK in shorting list?
